Week 23 in St. Thomas

Image
When we first came on the mission, Dick and I walked  without fail every single  day except Sunday for about 4 miles .  The walk was very hilly and about a month ago, I started having pain in both of my achilles.  I asked a friend of mine (Julie) to ask her son that is a Physical Therapist what he thought; I also asked my sister-in-law Anne to ask Heidi (her daughter-in-law, who is a doctor.) They both think that I may have a tear in my tendon and  the best thing to do is to stay off of it as much as I can and to ice it.  So I haven't been walking the hills and since the Elders left haven't played Pickle Ball either.  I miss doing both things so so much! So now I do Yoga..... Anywho....on Monday, Dick came back from his walk with his weekly bag of garbage.  After that, we studied, did laundry, cleaned the church, shopped for food and went to a movie (The Secret Life of Pets 2.)  So it was a busy P-Day.   That is just ...

Week 22 in St. Thomas

Well here we are at week 22.  Honestly, somedays, I wonder if we can endure this heat and humidity the whole summer?  It is only June and the feeling of always being wet is undeniable.  Thankfully, we do have an air conditioner in our bedroom, so now at night, we turn it on when we go to bed, and sleep much better.  During the mornings and evenings if we are home, we still just use the fans.  We haven't gotten the power bill since we started using the air at nighttime, so that will be most interesting.   Tuesday we did our regular gig at My Brother's Workshop.  Dick tutored Mikail, and I help Janelle.  They will both be walking in graduation on June 23rd.  We really enjoy the kids there and all the other people that work there too.  Big fans of My Bother's Workshop! Can you see what this is?  It is fingernails!  At first I thought that the lady had some kind of a a toy in her hands, and then as she sat down nex...

Week 21 in St. Thomas

On Monday after we studied and did some chores around our apartment, we headed to a new  beach: Coki Beach .  We snorkeled and had a picnic and it was a beautiful day.  This beach is way busier than the one that we usually go to (Brewers Bay) and Mr. JOMO (joy of missing out) didn't like it too much because they charge to park your car and to park your carcass on their chairs but Mrs. FOMO (fear of missing out )loved it!  Luckily we had our own chairs & umbrella. We saw some pretty cool fish while snorkeling and all in all it was a really nice day and a good way to start out the week. Monday night we had our monthly FHE.  It was the first one that we have done without the Elders😧. We were worried that nobody would come but we had a great little group.  We taught a lesson about Family History and afterward two of the members asked us to help them with their family history, which we would love to do.  We played a fun game called Mor...

Week 20 in St. Thomas

Started week twenty in St. Thomas on Monday.  It was kind of a gray and  gloomy Monday in more ways than one:  not only was it rainy and overcast but it was the day that the Elders flew out to Puerto Rico.  Some people have asked why they were transferred back to Puerto Rico with no replacements coming here?  It is because there is a shortage in leadership right now, as there are many new missionaries, and not so many that are experienced. Ours were experienced and both got called to be Zone Leaders, so that's the story!   Before taking them to the airport, we got up early for our last Pickle Ball games. Then we took them to our apartment and fed them breakfast and they did their e mailing and calling.    We sure are going to miss our Monday mornings with them.  They have been such good sports playing "their grandparents."  We told them that we would have to have a Pickle Ball reunion someday....... These are not gang signs......it ...
