Week 41 in St. Thomas

Week 41?  Can it really be that in just 11 more weeks we will have been out a year?  This week started out good!  We actually had a call from the Temple Square Sister Missionaries with a referral.  Now folks, this is exactly the first time on our mission that this has happened to us.  Apparantely this person called with a request for a Bible and a Book of Mormon.  So we called him, and got his voice mail and asked him to call back and he didn't.  So, we thought, "so much for that!"  But, on Tuesday, we were driving into town and Dick said, maybe we should try that guy again, so I called and left a message and he called me right back.  Long story short....we met him later that day in the pouring rain and gave him the books and had a great conversation with him.  He is a seeker of truth and had done quite a bit of research on the church.  He told us that he actually needed the Book of Mormon because it was the "stick of Joseph" just...

Week 40 in St. Thomas

Here we are in week 40 .  When we were at week 4, I wasn't sure we would make it to week 40, but here we are folks!  Monday started out early, as we picked up the elders eagerly anticipating playing pickle ball with them.  It had been a few weeks, due to visitors and whatnot, so we were all looking forward to it!  Well, we get to the courts and all the fences are down around the courts and then looking closer, we notice that the nets are down too!  We were bummed; first,   Price Smart (our Costco or as close as we are going to get here...) we found out that they shut down the food court.  The one place on the island that one could really get a pretty cheap fast meal and a soft serve ice cream cone for a dollar!  It is gone......we have been so sad about that.  Then we find out that the nets are gone on the courts........I know these are not earth shaking problems compared to what our friends that are serving in Africa face!  But for us...

Being able to watch all the sessions of General Conference was such a treat!  It definitely filled up our buckets to resolve to do better, to be better and to make some new commitments to make changes in accordance to what we felt and learned.  I think Sister Smart said it best:  "After listening to conference.... THEREFORE WHAT?   Will we walk away saying that was wonderful and tuck the talks away for six months, or will we pray for our own personal revelation on how we can refine our Christlike attributes and be a better disciple?" That is certainly I plan to do.....study and listen and ponder and change...... Along that same line....look how far we are in the Book of Mormon now?  We are in Alma, which I love.  This week we have been reading a series of letters from Alma to his sons.  Some of his sons were righteous and some were not so righteous.  Alma loved each one of them.  He pointed out their strengths and their weaknesses an...
