First week on the Island

Well, we have been here exactly 6 days. Sometimes it feels like it has been 6 months.....it will be a bit of an adjustment to change over to island life, but each day gets a little easier and we get a bit more familiar with how to get places and what we are supposed to be doing.  One of the biggest adjustments has been driving.  They drive on the opposite side of the road than we do, but the steering wheel is still on the left, so it is just weird.  Elder Garrison has been doing all the driving and has just once headed down the road on the wrong side.....I screamed him over!  Sheesh!  The other adjustment has been trying to understand the "English".  So many of the people here speak French Creole....so when they change over to English, it sometimes still sounds like a foreign language to us.  It is especially hard on the phone to understand what is being said. First week at the MTC

Well, this is our first blog post from the MTC.  It has been a wonderful week of learning and of reflection.  We are taught each day by two sets of young teachers that are in their 20's and they have all been phenomenal.  We both have learned so much and are excited to get on our way to St Thomas.  We will finish up today (Friday) and then go visit with the couple that we are replacing.  They live in Orem and have just been home for a few weeks.  While we have been here at the MTC we have met some wonderful people and also been able to reconnect with some old friends.  I will post the pictures from those meetings: This is a picture of our district- we had the Steele’s, the Bates and the Deeds, all wonderful couples.  Our afternoon teachers were Brother Steven and Brother Hepworth.  Here we are saying goodbye to our great friend Robyn Garciađź’•đź’• On Thursday evening we had dinner at the home of Jan and Tim Blackburn, friends from Crof...
