Week five of the MISH

A beautiful picture of a St. Thomas Sunset!

These chickens are all over the island. They are our alarm clocks!   Much like  Kauai in Hawaii.  But, these guys start crowing at like 3 AM,  and because we sleep with our windows open, they are pretty annoying.  But hey, it is their habitat right?

On the Monday mornings that we are here, we have been playing pickle ball with our Elders.  The first time we played, Elder Garrison and I beat them but last Monday when we played, they won the first two games and then we came back and tied it 2-2!  But, then they came back and beat us in the last game.  They are good sports to play with grandpa and grandma!  We tease them that they should be killing us, but maybe they are just letting us win, who knows????  It is fun for us though and we all look forward to it.

We have been trying to get around and see all the members of the branch here.  This week, we had the privilege of meeting with Wilma.  ( I wish I had a picture of her.). We asked her how she came to join the church and she told us that she joined 15 years ago.  She was coming home from work, and she was also taking care of a sick husband when there was a knock at her door.  It was two young missionary Elders and they asked if they could share a message with her for just 5 minutes....so she let them in.  They told her about the Book of Mormon and asked her if she would read the verses that they had marked in it.  She said that she didn't read all week, but remembered that they were coming back, so she picked up the book, and started reading.  She said she felt something different as she continued to read, and she wanted to know what happened to the people that she was reading about.  When she got to the end of the book and read Moroni's promise in Moroni 10:3-5, she knew she needed to ask God if the book was true, so she did.  She said that she was overwhelmed with the spirit telling her that it was true and that she couldn't deny it.  She called the missionaries and told them that she didn't know what was happening to her, but they knew!  So she was baptized.  She said that she lost a lot of friends from the Methodist church that she had attended since she was a young girl, but that she has gained so much more knowledge and feels closer to God than she had ever felt, and continues to feel that.  It was a sweet sweet experience to hear her tell us this story as she wept.  We said to each other afterward, that it has been the highlight of our mission so far.

We went down to the nearby beach (a rocky beach) on Monday for a bit.  I didn't go in but Dick braved the rocks and did some snorkeling.  He said he saw some pretty fish.  He is a trooper!

We got a couple of packages from our kids this week for Valentines Day!  This apron was one of the gifts.  I think he looks great in it!!!  Thanks Denae and Jackie.

On Valentines Day, we delivered some cookies and treats to this cute family.  They are from Haiti and really such happy people.  The girls are members but the parents haven't joined the church yet.

This is the  "Art Gallery" on our fridge that features some of the art from our grandkids......we love it!

This is a picture of our Branch President Marsh  and his family and the Elders plus Janessa.  We had a game night on Friday night and our attendance wasn't great, but we had fun anyway.

This is a picture that I snapped after we told the Elders that they can now call their families every P Day!  They were so shocked and really didn't know what to think. They totally thought we were lying to them.   You could  just see their minds going......such a big change for missionaries throughout the world.  Hopefully it will be a great thing for families and the work will go forth!
