Week two on St. Thomas

Well, we have been here two weeks now.  There is a lot to be learned on this island.  A few of the things that we have learned are:  THE PUERTO RICAN POKE.  The helps a lot in traffic, when we need to turn...we just have to be brave and poke ourselves into traffic!  It works every time!  We have also learned that things move very slow on the island, this was very evident when Elder Garrison had to take the car in for a routine service.  He left at 6:30 am to get in line, and didn't get back until 1PM.  So next time, we will try to leave the car and catch a Safari.  That is the way that locals get around the island.  They have fancy Safaris for the tourists too.  Here is a picture of one:
It is basically a truck, that has been converted to an open air taxi service.  It costs $1 to most areas, but if you go past a certain point, it is $2 each way.  You pay when you get off.

We attended church for there first time on Sunday.  It was fun to meet the local members and also many people from around the United States that were in town because they were either on a cruise, or they were sailing here.   On most days there are a couple of cruise ships in port, some people have told us that there have been as many as 10 in one day.  You can imagine what that does to the traffic!

We have gotten into somewhat of a routine this week.....we usually walk about 3 miles in the hills here from 6 to 7, then get ready for the day and then do individual and companion study before we set out for the day.  Our task here is to support the members and the leadership in this branch and also try to share the gospel with the people here.  The most challenging part for us is that nobody has address, and besides that, there are no signs.....so finding the people who have fallen away is very difficult.  We have to rely on those in the branch to help us.  We have even called missionaries the served years ago to get some insight on some of the members here.  Needless to say, we have our work cut out for us, but we know that the Lord will guide us, if we just do our part, and that is what we intend to do.

We picked up a few groceries on Monday too.....prices are sky high, but the avocados are huge and delicious!!!
On Fridays we ferry over to the Island of St John. This last Friday, Elders Howe and Robinson came with us.  It is a pretty little island and a lot of tourists go over there for a visit.  This is a picture on the boat on the way back.

This is sweet Joseph again.  It is a joy to meet with him each week.
