12 Weeks in St. Thomas

One thing about this place is that there is always a beautiful sunset.  No matter what kind of day it has been, good or bad, looking at
these sunsets reminds us of the hand of God in our lives.

This is the little reminder that the Tortola Branch put out to remind everyone that this coming weekend is General Conference.  Our entire church world wide will tune in via TV or computer to view these meetings where our Prophet and Apostles will speak to us.  It is honestly a spiritual feast people!    We are all looking so forward to it.  We are so blessed to be members of a "living" church, where direction is on going from Our Heavenly Father.  Hope you all tuned in.

Elder Shah and Robinson

Shaved ice....so great on a hot day!
Mountain Top
On Monday we usually have a P-Day.   We started out the morning playing Pickle Ball with Elder Robinson and Elder Shah....they beat us old geezers! But I think we give them a good set. It was 3-2. They admitted later that they were very sore there next day.  We reminded them that we are old enough to be their grandparents, so guess how we were feeling!  Ha!  There is literally nothing for the Elders to do here on the island since they cannot go to the beach, so we really do feel for them.  So later in the day,  we took them to Mountain Top.  It is basically the highest point here on the island and is one big gift shop tourist trap  with a great view. Then we took them to have some shaved ice and then to PriceSmart to do grocery shopping.  We love these two young men so much and are thankful they are on the island with us.  They always brighten up our days.

The Martin Family from Santa Cruz, The Walches and Dick and I.

Here is a GREAT(not) picture of me laying tile at LaRae's house.  We worked with the Walches again on Wed. and Thursday.  They had friends from Santa Cruz here visiting, The Martin Family.....they all pitched in and helped.  It still has a ways to go, but huge kudos to Elizabeth and Wilson for all the work they are doing.

We had Kris over for dinner this week. He is leaving the island on Monday to go to Alaska where he has a big jewelry store.  We have come to really love him and wish him all the best . He will be back on St. Thomas in October.  Such is the life of jewelry store owners........

On our morning walks we have been picking up garbage.  We have gotten a full bag ever single day this week........such is the life of garbage collectors. Our motto: Satisfaction guaranteed or we will double your trash back!

Sebastian, Alex, Jadan, Kyle, Noah and Brett Marsh (Our Branch President)

Friday, we were invited to Noah Rodridguez's 8th birthday party...he is the one in the picture at the top right.  We had pizza and played pickle ball. Noah is getting baptized in the ocean next Saturday.

Saw this license plate today.........no words

It was wonderful listening to General Conference this weekend.  I told our kids that for us it was like attending a rock concert of our favorite band......so much food for thought.  One of my favorite talks was by Sharon Eubank's:  'To those who feel paralyzed with grief, who are "just so tired," who feel they don't fit the "traditional mold," wo are splintering with questions or wo feel they will never be good enough, Christ is the source of light, healing and rest."

"When tragedies overtake us, when life hurts so much that we can't breathe, when we've taken a beating like the man on the road to Jericho and been left for dead, Jesus comes along and pours oil into our wounds, He lifts us tenderly up, He takes us to an inn, He looks after us."

"Take a few more steps on the covenant path, even if it's too dark to see cry far.  The lights will come back on."

I just loved her talk about light and darkness and how Our Savior is the light that we need to cleave to.  He is there for us, no matter what, I know that.

We had a pot luck dinner between sessions of conference on Sunday. It started out a bit dicey because the power went our on the whole island about 9:30am.  So our Branch President went to the chapel and hooked the satellite up to a generator.  Thank goodness for that!  So we watched the first session without air conditioning but by the 2nd session it was back on (thank goodness).  These people brought out the food!  It was fun to sit and visit and eat between sessions.

What about the announcement of the temple in Tooele?????  How about that???? Forever and forever in Tooele!   Until next week....
Love,
Dick and Donna
