Week 34 in St Thomas
September started off good. We had a very nice Fast and Testimony meeting on Sunday. We didn't have many visitors this weekend, the hurricane probably scared people off a little bit. We are looking forward to it getting a little bit cooler as the weeks go by. Right now, the humidity is just killer!
We played Pickle Ball bright and early on Labor Day. Even though Elder Garrison is the one exhausted, we did win today again.....I know the day will come that the Elders will be beating us, but for now we are enjoying the victories. After the games, we treated the Elders to breakfast at McDonalds..I know, we are big spenders!
So one of the bonus things that happened with the hurricane was that there were a bunch of mangos that were blown off the trees around here. So on Dick's morning walk, he brought a few home, so I made shrimp tacos with mango salsa. They were deliciso if I do say so myself!
Moving right along on reading the Book of Mormon as a mission. We are in Mosiah right now. One of the verses that really stuck out to me this week was Mosiah 26:1. "Now it came to pass that there were many of the rising generation that could not understand the words of king Benjamin, being little children at the time he spake unto his people; and they did not believe the tradition of their fathers." I feel like this is why it is so very important for us to teach our children in our homes through the "Come Follow Me" curriculum. It really is such an divinely inspired way to study the gospel together. I just love it so much. Along with that, we listened to a talk this week called: "Stand Forever " by Lawrence E. Corbridge. If you haven't listened to it, give it a listen, it will be worth your while.
A shot of the Elders and Quinn at Queen Louise after playing Dominos with the elderly residents on Thursday. The Elders lost....

Here we are with Valerie....(don't mind my hair ...it's the humidity) |
Keyron and Lanaliayah sat at our table and kept us throughly entertained. |
On Wednesday, we attended a retirement party for Valerie Mark. She has been cooking lunch for 100 people for the Salvation Army for 6 years, five days a week. She cooked her last meal last Friday. She is such a good cook! At the party they served a ton of food, ham, chicken, scallopped potatoes, macaroni and cheese and garlic bread! Needless to say, we got in our carbs......they had a big cake for her in the refrigerator but someone broke in the night before and stole it! How heartless can one be??? We will miss working with her every Friday at lunch time.
Thursday night our Branch President invited us over for a real Texas Barbeque ......see that brisket above? It was delicious! His wife is a great cook and they treat us so good! So thankful for them!
It was the Elder's first boat ride over to Hassel Island. That is where our Branch President lives.....so they were good boys and wore their life jackets!
After dinner we had the pleasure of sharing the gospel with one of their friends and his son. They asked lots of questions and it was a really wonderful night of sharing. Because he speaks Spanish as well as English and Italian, Elder Sigcha got to share with him quite a bit. It was a good night!
On Friday morning at 7am, we headed to the Red Cross warehouse to help again with the inventory and moving things around. As you can see, we sweat a bit. For some reason, Dick doesn't sweat where his heart is! Actually but the time we were done, he was soaked! We found a machete in the warehouse.....they use they a lot here!
And for the cute factor this week.....pictures of Trent and Eliza starting pre school this year. For Trent it is his second year and it is Eliza's first year.
And last but not least....how about those Cougs???
Hope you all had a great week. Thanks for checking in with us and for your prayers. We are so thankful for great friends and family. Stay strong and steadfast.
Love,
Dick and Donna
aaaahsome week you two!
