Week 39 in St. Thomas
Being able to watch all the sessions of General Conference was such a treat! It definitely filled up our buckets to resolve to do better, to be better and to make some new commitments to make changes in accordance to what we felt and learned. I think Sister Smart said it best: "After listening to conference....THEREFORE WHAT? Will we walk away saying that was wonderful and tuck the talks away for six months, or will we pray for our own personal revelation on how we can refine our Christlike attributes and be a better disciple?" That is certainly I plan to do.....study and listen and ponder and change......
Along that same line....look how far we are in the Book of Mormon now? We are in Alma, which I love. This week we have been reading a series of letters from Alma to his sons. Some of his sons were righteous and some were not so righteous. Alma loved each one of them. He pointed out their strengths and their weaknesses and plead with them to obey the commandments and be in a position to receive all the blessings that would be theirs if they would just follow the commandments. I love these chapters so much. I can relate as a parent as to how much we love our kids and how much we want them to live up to their divine potential. It is their choice however, and all we can do is love them and pray for them and be good examples. The Book of Mormom is full of great examples of parents as well as so many other great nuggets of truth. I am so thankful for that book!
On Monday morning at 8am, the Carnival Fasination pulled up and Julie and Doug Cullimore were here for a visit! We had a great day taking them around the island, showing them our apartment, the views, the beaches ect., We talked non-stop and just had a delightful day with them! So thankful that they came for a visit. They are great friends. St. Thomas was the first stop of 5 different islands for them. Sounded like a great cruise!
This is at Mountain Top....
On Wednesday, the Disney Cruise ship pulled up and the whole Swisher Family walked off! We took Brian and Tara and Britton and Mary in the car with us and showed them Mountain Top and then took them to Brewers Bay. The rest of ther clan took a taxi met us with us there a little later. It was so great to see them and to just spend some time with them at the beach. Their 6 grandkids are just adorable as are all their kids and in-law kids! Such a treat to have them here.
Wednesday evening it was back to business with English Class. It was Sophia's(girl on the right) last time because she is going to move to Boston next week to join her husband. We will miss her! I know they don't look very excited in this picture, but they really are very involved in the class!
Thursday night we had the Elders and Dale and Alesha Easton over for dinner. We have so enjoyed having the Easton's in our Branch here. They have been here since April and will be here for 5 years or so. They are great assests to our Branch!
Friday the Elders about wore us out with lessons! We attended 4 lessons with them on Friday afternoon. We enjoyed every one of them very much and appreciate their diligence and hard work. They really are so good at teaching and it is fun to be involved with them. One of our friends that we teach with them asks some very good questions and we have some great discussions. She is already in the middle of Alma reading the Book of Mormon!
If you are selling you car and want to save on vinyl lettering, here is an idea for you!
This cute little one just turned 8 years old! We brought her cookies and talked to her about her baptism that will be coming up. I think she liked the cookies better than our lesson......
Happy Birthday to Briggs! He will turn 7 on the 14th. We are so glad that we got to see him last week and get in on all the birthday plans! Briggs is going to do great things someday. He is spontaneous, gregarious, smart, quick-witted and and he is always up for a good time. He is also very good at negotiating and once he has you talked into something......HE WILL NOT FORGET. We think he would be a good lobbyist.
That's the week for us. We hope that you are all doing well. Thanks for reaching out to us and for your prayers. Stay STRONG and STEADFAST!
Love,
Dick and Donna
