Week 49 in St. Thomas

We are on the count down to Christmas.  Hard to believe that it is next week.  We have had a busy week.  We started out on Monday doing?  You guessed it, playing pickle ball with the Elders and after that we took them to breakfast because we were celebrating that neither one of them got transferred!  We are thrilled that they will be staying for another transfer.  They are such hard-working missionaries and we feel fortunate to work with them:
On Wednesday night at English class we had a Christmas Party.  We showed them a video, sang some songs and played some games and of course had cookies and hot cocoa.  We played the "white elephant" game and it was pretty funny watching them play.  All the students are from Haiti, so they had never played such a game.  It was fun to see them laugh so much.
On Thursday we stopped by to see Suzanne, the former Educational Director at My Brother's Workshop.  She is now the head of the CELL Dept at the University of the Virgin Island.  It was fun to see her new office and visit with her.  We gave her a Book of Mormon and talked a little bit about it with her.  She told us that she had actually read a little bit about it online. She is a wonderful person and such a great advocate for students here on the island.

Speaking of Book of Mormons....we have been busy wrapping them up and putting tags on them to give all the people that we have been working with.  We have about 21 to give in all.  We hope that the people that we have worked with, will take time to read the book and that it will bring them closer to Christ.

On Thursday, we took Elizabeth and Wilson and Gillian Walch with us to Eldra Schulterbrandt.  We did a craft, played Bingo and then sang some songs.  Gillian and Elizabeth strummed along on their ukuleles.  It was fun to have them come along and very helpful in doing the little craft that our friend Peggy sent for us to do!
These guys are good at crafts!

And talented in the music department too!

Love having the Walches in our Branch here.

This is the Christmas tree at Eldra Schulderbrandt.  If you look close many of the ornaments  are hand-made....
This was the ornament that we put together On Thursday.

Thursday night we had a birthday party for a woman from our Branch that had never had a birthday party in her life!  She was turning 70 years old!  It reminded me of this gif that I saw somewhere...

You know I can relate because I have a December birthday too.  Once my good friend, Margo had a half birthday party for me in July and I thought that was the sweetest thing ever!  Anywho....we had a nice little party with her and her son, the Elders and AJ and Becca.  It was a fun evening. Happy Birthday to Vicky!

On Friday, the Walches came with us to serve lunch at the Salvation Army.  It was great to have some extra hands, as they were also giving out bags of food.
Joycelyn (in the center) is the cook.  She cooks food for 100+ 5 days a week!  I can't even......

On Saturday we headed to Tortola.  We took the Elders to lunch and then prepared for the Branch Christmas Party.  They had such a good turnout, because they are so good about inviting friends!  They had a surprise visitor.....bet you can't guess who it was?

Oh the things that senior missionaries are roped into doing.....

Well that's the week.  Three more days and it will be Christmas.  This year more than ever, I feel like we can focus on the real reason we celebrate Christmas.  The gift that Heavenly Father gave us was His Son, Jesus Christ.  I hope that in all the festivites and gifts, that we will remember that, and follow Him, as we love and serve others.  Stay strong and steadfast!

Merry Christmas,
Love,
The Garrisons
