Week 4 in St. Kitts

We had a great visit Sunday evening with a little family that is in our Branch,  Emily is going to Ross University of Veterinary Medicine and Troy stays home(but does summer sales)  with their darling little boy Owen (having a nap) . We felt a special connection to them because Troy's mom and dad served in the Puerto Rico Mission and just went home a few months ago.  They are wonderful friends.....isn't it a small world???

We continue to find our way around this beautiful island and are constantly running into people that know "the missionaries". We are so grateful for the good foundation that previous missionaries here have laid and hope that we don't mess it up!

One day last week we had to take a member to the hospital.  The above sign was posted by the front door of the hospital.  I couldn't help but think about the difference in our standards in America and the standards here.....it really is very conservative in so many ways.

One of the things that we use a lot when teaching is the I pad.  We show people wonderful videos about different gospel topics.  I snapped this picture of Elder Garrison showing Merlise a video.  Merlise has a great love of the Book of Mormon even though she is still a member of another church.
She  gets up early every weekday and she cooks about 40 meals of various foods and her son takes the food down into town and to sell.   This is very common here.  You will see people with their home cooked food all over town and that is how they support themselves many times.  We had a member in our branch that does it right out of her home near a school.  So one day we went to buy some of her food (which was delicious by the way) and there were probably 20 school children lined up by her front door to buy food!  So resourceful!

I love this quote by Russell M. Ballard.  I think sometimes we forget the many sacrifices that our ancestors made so that we can have the freedoms and the luxuries that we enjoy today.  I hope that I can always remember these words and be a true disciple of Christ.

One of the best parts about being here in St. Kitts is the many young familes that we have in the Branch.  Dwight came over with his darling wife Gizelle and their little one to put a password on our unsecured internet.  It was so fun to get to know them better.  With families like this, we are are confident that the church here is in great hands!

On Sunday, we got up early and got on the car ferry and attended church in Nevis.  Nevis has a "group" that meets there in a home.  The island of Nevis is small, just 36 square miles and there are 11,000 people that live there.
The meeting we had ended up being just us, Elizabeth (our friend here that is going to Vet school) and the Prasad Family.  As we gathered in their home and partook of the sacrament, I couldn't help but think of the scripture in Matthew 18:20:  For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them."
It is really hard for me to describe the feelings that we experienced there, it was just a sweet experience to worship with this wonderful family and feel of their devotion and goodness.  It is a feeling that I will never forget.

The Prasad Family and Elizabeth

Well, that's was our week.  We are slowly getting used to being on this beautiful island with these wonderful people.  What a blessing it has been for us to be here.  We still miss our Branch family in St. Thomas and our friends there, but as we are meeting people here, we are discovering that there are wonderful people where ever we go.  (Note to self-take more pictures!).
Hope you all have a wonderful week.  Stay strong and steadfast!
Love,
The Garrisons
