Week 5 in Kitts

We can't believe we have been here almost a month now.  As always, some days fly by and others crawl by but looking back it seems to be going pretty fast.  One of our favorite ways to get to know others is to have them over for dinner.  That way we can relax and talk and find out about each other's journeys.  On Sunday evening we had a good group over:  Troy and Emily and their little Owen, Nicole and Elizabeth.  The three ladies are all students at the Vet College here and Troy is what they call a VIP!  It was fun to visit with them and enjoy "Mexican Haystacks".....it was a fun evening.

Usually on Sunday nights later (because we are 4 hours ahead of California) we try to talk to all of our kids.  We look forward to checking in with them and seeing how all the grandkids are doing.  This week we got a nice surprise when Jeff Olson sent us a recording of Grant's Sacrament Meeting talk.  It was awesome to hear that talk!  The cherry on the top would have been to hear Olivia's talk; she did send it to us though! It was excellent too.  Both of them talked about following the Lord Jesus Christ.  As parents, these kind of things are like paydays!

I love this advice.  Honestly, we all have so much to be grateful for.  I saw another quote recently that said "what if when you woke up in the morning, the only things that you would have would be the things to thanked Heavenly Father for the night before in prayer?"  When I let that sink in, I think that I really do need to express my gratitute more specifically.....

On Thursday we got to fly to Puerto Rico for a Mission Conference.   We stayed with the Nerdins.  Sister Nerdin is the Mission Nurse and Elder Nerdin manages all the cars in the mission.  They took us to Costco and to an actual Mall.  So.....living in Puerto Rico is like living in America folks!  These malls are as nice as any mall that I have ever been in and have all the same stores that we have there too!  Since it has been over a year that we have had anything to shop at besides KMart in St. Thomas, it was a real TREAT!   On Thursday night we went to dinner with the other senior mission couples:  The Hermansens (the office couple), The Walkers (self-reliance), and the Nerdins.  We had some great Puerto Rican food.  First time for that too....

Here we are at dinner.

This guy was playing the accordian at the mall.  He looked pretty old, but good for him!!!
Here we are with the Walkers and the Nerdins.
Friday we went on a hike with the Nerdins and the Walkers to the El Yunque National Forest.  We hiked to Britton Tower.   It was beautiful and we got rained on pretty good! After that, we had lunch at El Pollo Tropical....which is like a Puerto Rican fast-food place there.

Saturday was the Mission Conference.  It was the first time in our 13 months on this mission that we have been together with ALL THE MISSIONARIES in the Puerto Rico Mission.  That was such a treat for us.  We were taught by an Apostle:  Elder Dale G. Renlund; also Bishop Christopher Waddell and Elder Jorge Alvardo and Elder Carlos Godoy and their wives. Listening to these leaders teach us was a spiritual feast. It was such a shot in the arm for us and we returned to  St. Kitts revived and and rejuvenated. We know that we are on the Lord's errand and we pray that we can do all that He would have us do here for the wonderful people of St. Kitts.

A couple of pictures from church on Sunday.  We thought the putting the chairs together for the baby to sleep was genius and the second picture shows a little toddler doing some art work during Sunday school.  The kids here are so so cute!

Well that's our week in a nutshell.  As usual, thanks for your prayers and reaching out to us.  We are blessed with great family and friends.  Stay strong and steadfast.
Love,
The Garrisons
