Week 6 in St. Kitts

Image
Week six in St. Kitts started off pretty good with a nice walk around the golf course at about 6:15am. When we left, it was cloudy but by the time we had walked for about 40 minutes, it started pouring rain as it often does, and we got soaked! One of our favorite things about being on a mission is the wonderful people that we meet and the stories that they have to tell about how they came into contact with the missionaries and if they are members, how their conversion came about.  We love to hear these stories.  This week we met Judith and Sean  for the first time.  Their names has been on the list of people that we should meet and teach, but we just had a hard time getting with them, but we finally did.  What a wonderful couple they are and their affliation with the nmissionaries goes back YEARS.....like 20 years!  They have yet to be baptized.....someday! This is one of my favorite scriptures in the Book of Mormon.  So thankful to ha...

Week 5 in Kitts

We can't believe we have been here almost a month now.  As always, some days fly by and others crawl by but looking back it seems to be going pretty fast.  One of our favorite ways to get to know others is to have them over for dinner.  That way we can relax and talk and find out about each other's journeys.  On Sunday evening we had a good group over:  Troy and Emily and their little Owen, Nicole and Elizabeth.  The three ladies are all students at the Vet College here and Troy is what they call a VIP!  It was fun to visit with them and enjoy "Mexican Haystacks".....it was a fun evening.   Usually on Sunday nights later (because we are 4 hours ahead of California) we try to talk to all of our kids.  We look forward to checking in with them and seeing how all the grandkids are doing.  This week we got a nice surprise when Jeff Olson sent us a recording of Grant's Sacrament Meeting talk.  It was awesome to hear that talk! ...

Week 4 in St. Kitts

We had a great visit Sunday evening with a little family that is in our Branch,  Emily is going to Ross University of Veterinary Medicine and Troy stays home(but does summer sales)  with their darling little boy Owen (having a nap) . We felt a special connection to them because Troy's mom and dad served in the Puerto Rico Mission and just went home a few months ago.  They are wonderful friends.....isn't it a small world???   We continue to find our way around this beautiful island and are constantly running into people that know "the missionaries". We are so grateful for the good foundation that previous missionaries here have laid and hope that we don't mess it up!  One day last week we had to take a member to the hospital.  The above sign was posted by the front door of the hospital.  I couldn't help but think about the difference in our standards in America and the standards here.....it really is very conservative in so many ways. ...

Week 3 in St. Kitts

Image
Well, as of yet, we haven't played any pickle ball in St. Kitts.  BUT, we have the luxury of living across the street from a beautiful golf course, and it is fairly flat, so we have taken advantage of that and have had some wonderful morning walks on most days.   As we go about our days (getting lost), we often see things along the way that are very interesting and entertaining.   Below are two pictures of things that we saw one day as we tried to find an address that seemed impossible to get to! Who knew that there were public baths here?  We had them in Japan and one time when we went back to Japan on a trip, we visited one just so we could have that experience, but I don't think we will do it here.... . We told our son Bob, that we have a new and exciting business idea for him.  We loved seeing this brightly painted party bus! One of the little ladies that we have been visiting each week is Priscilla.  She is blind now and is ...
